Eisbaden.de is the former website of the Radebeuler Spatzen, a group of men and women who started ice bathing and winter swimming long before it was such a big trend.
Radebeul is a district town known for its many vineyards and estates and for its most famous resident, Karl May.
Winter swimming, also known as ice bathing, winter swimming or ice swimming, bathing in open water at water temperatures close to 0°C is less adventurous than it may seem at first glance.
Just as other athletes, e.g. sprinters or weightlifters, have trained their bodies to convert a lot of energy into movement in just a few seconds, the winter swimmer’s body is trained to reflexively convert its energy reserves into body heat when it is cold, so that hypothermia does not occur in the first place.

The winter swimmer only stays in the cold water for a few minutes. They do not freeze after the bath, but instead enjoy the exuberant reaction of the body.
The associated toughening effect promotes health. Brenke and Siems write in “Das Buch vom Winterschwimmen” that winter swimmers are not immune to “… contracting flu-like infections, but these are much milder and shorter.”
It is not recommended that untrained people get into the cold water in the middle of winter. However, you can prepare yourself by swimming outdoors (preferably several times a week) from summer onwards. Regular cold showers are also very suitable for training.
Traditionally, the Radebeul sparrows have organized a New Year’s swim. Below are a few impressions from January 7, 2007 and the preparatory work to get a hole in the ice.
About me:
My name is Anna Falcoianu, I was born in 1981 and I studied communication and media studies. I am now a passionate ice-bather, which perhaps has something to do with the fact that I grew up in Finland. I deal with a variety of topics professionally and have founded several companies. Among other things, I do consulting for Finnish companies that want to gain a foothold in Germany or other EU countries. Apart from that, I also have another website that deals with the calculation of the life-long right of residence for older people who have a right of usufruct or right of residence.
