In a world that is often characterized by hectic pace and stress, many people are looking for new ways to strengthen their body and mind. One such practice that has become increasingly popular in recent years is ice bathing. In particular, people who work hard and are looking for a balance to their stressful jobs are increasingly incorporating ice bathing into their everyday lives. There are also people with various physical or mental complaints (e.g. lack of sleep, obesity, lack of energy, depression) who want to try something new but also natural to combat their problems and improve their attitude to life.
Although it may seem strange at first glance to voluntarily plunge into icy water, there are a multitude of potential health benefits behind it. From boosting the immune system to improving mental resilience, ice bathing offers a fascinating way to challenge and strengthen your body.

Why ice bathing on the Baltic Sea?
More and more hoteliers and tour operators are discovering ice bathing as an additional offer for their health-conscious customers. The Baltic Sea offers a great backdrop for this: low water temperatures, beautiful landscapes and healthy sea air provide ideal conditions for ice bathers. Eisbaden.de visited a beach hotel on the Baltic Sea coast and spent an exciting weekend with people who are interested in ice bathing. In the following report, we share our impressions with you.
Which spots are particularly suitable for this?
We spent a weekend at the Strandhotel Fischland in Dierhagen. The Fischland is a charming 4-star superior hotel on the Baltic Sea coast, which is characterized by its idyllic location, first-class sports and fitness facilities and top service. The hotel is located directly on the beach, surrounded by the breathtaking nature of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park. Guests can not only enjoy the fresh sea air and the picturesque coastal landscape, but also experience a variety of activities such as hiking, cycling and water sports right on the doorstep.
The Strandhotel Fischland offers a variety of comfortable rooms, suites and vacation apartments, which are modern and stylishly furnished and offer a magnificent view of the Baltic Sea or the surrounding pine forests. Guests can also pamper themselves in the hotel’s own SPA, which offers a variety of relaxing treatments and applications to refresh body and mind. And that’s exactly where we spent most of our stay, taking a few courses on breathing techniques in combination with ice bathing in the Baltic Sea or taking a sauna in the dune sauna.
Ice bathing course at Hotel Fischland
We started the weekend with a short yoga and stretching exercise to mobilize all participants and clear the airways.
In the second step, we went straight into the guided breathing technique according to Wim Hof / Tummo. This specific breathing technique involves deep inhalation and exhalation as well as short breathing pauses. Breathing exercises help to oxygenate the body, boosting the metabolism and activating the immune system. This technique is often practiced in combination with ice bathing to develop a better tolerance to the cold and regulate body heat. However, it can also be practiced completely separately from the ice bath.
After the breathing exercises, the participants were able to report on how they felt. And then it was already time to go into the cold Baltic Sea – in the most beautiful sunshine. The beach is right on our doorstep, so just getting there was a pleasure. With a water temperature of 11 degrees, the Baltic Sea was quite moderate and therefore the perfect temperature for ice bathing beginners. An easy introduction to ice swimming was therefore guaranteed.
The goal was to stay in the water for 2 minutes. This was followed by a short warm-up on the beach in the so-called horse stance.
An ice bathing weekend on the Baltic Sea – our conclusion
We had a lovely and relaxing stay at the Strandhotel Fischland, the weekend really took us out of our daily work routine. The restaurant was first class, the general atmosphere and of course the guests were great, so we can only recommend you to visit the Strandhotel and generally to go to the Baltic Sea to enjoy fresh temperatures, a cool sea breeze and a great ambience in spring and fall.
