Professional cooling pools for ice bathing are on the rise. This is because there are few alternatives if you want to go ice bathing in summer. Ice bathing, also known as cold water therapy, is currently enjoying great popularity. However, anyone who is convinced of the many benefits of ice bathing is less inclined to simply give it a miss for 6-8 months a year because the water temperature is too high. At least not us 🙂

Comparison of chill tub ice baths
A professional Chill Tub ice bath differs significantly from conventional bathtubs or improvised ice bath set-ups. The chill tub basins have precise temperature control. The temperature can be set precisely and as soon as it is reached, only the filter pump runs. This keeps the water at the desired temperature. Two different time zones can also be set for the Chill Tub. This allows you to avoid cooling the pool during the day, for example, as you usually want to get into the ice bath during the day. With the Chill Tub Pro, it is even possible to control the ice bath precisely from a distance using the app and, for example, cool it while you are still out and about. The water is constantly purified by a particle filter and ozonator. Most tubs and tubs have no insulation or, if they do, only very rudimentary insulation. This means that a lot of energy is lost, especially in summer, and the pool has to be completely cooled down again for every ice bath. The Chill Tub ice tubs are well insulated to keep the cold efficiently and minimize energy consumption. A cover is also included to keep the cold in. Depending on the chill tub variant, different materials are used that are robust and durable.
There are three versions of the Chill Tub: Chill Tub Lite, Chill Tub Original and Chill Tub Pro. You can find an overview of all Chill Tubs here:
Chill Tub Lite
The Chill Tub Lite consists of a black plastic mold in which the cooling machine is permanently installed. The particular advantage is that the mold is very light and therefore the Chill Tub with refrigeration machine only weighs around 85 kg dry weight. The Chill Tub Lite also has a modern design, it is not just a rectangular ice tub. The water volume is 400 liters.
Chill Tub Lite dimensions
The Lite pool measures 115 cm in length and 75 cm in width. The depth of the pool is 75 cm. This is sufficient for most body sizes. The pelvis is flat on the underside, which means that you can sit in a comfortable squatting position.
Chill Tub Original:
The Chill Tub Original is the first model to hit the market. It consists of a refined stainless steel tub with a black 316 aluminum cladding. The weight is slightly higher than the Chill Tub Lite at 125 KG. The total water capacity is also 400 liters.
Dimensions Chill Tub Original
The Chill Tub Original has very similar dimensions to the Lite. It is slightly longer and slightly narrower than the Chill Tub Lite. The inner dimensions of the tub are 120 cm long and 73 cm wide. As with the Lite version, the depth is also 75 cm.
Control panel for Chill Tub Lite and Original
The control panel for the Chill Tub Lite and Original is attached directly to the cooling unit. This is integrated into the tub to save space and is easily accessible via a cover.
Chill Tub Pro:
The Chill Tub Pro is the luxury version in the Chill Tub family. It consists of a very generously dimensioned white Aristech acrylic tub. The display for controlling the cooling unit is integrated into the tub. The dry weight is 200 kg and the capacity of the tub is 700 liters, which is almost twice as much as the two smaller siblings, the Lite and Original. The exterior is also distinguished by the LED strips at the corners, which create a beautiful permanent illumination and thus turn the Pro into a real design object, especially in the early morning hours or in the evening when the light is no longer so strong.
Chill Tub Pro dimensions
At 135 cm long and 110 cm wide, the Chill Tub Pro is approx. 15 cm longer than the Original and the Lite, as well as significantly wider with an additional 37 cm width. In combination with a 5 cm deeper pool (80 cm), this makes the pool extremely comfortable and usable for very tall people. The large water volume of 700 liters is correspondingly large. Ergonomically, the Chill Tub Pro is designed so that you can sit in the tub, which also relieves the strain on your legs.
Wifi control
Wifi control is only available with the Chill Tub Pro. The temperature can be easily set via the app for both the cooling and heating functions. You can make different settings depending on whether you want to cool or heat quickly or slowly. Of course, you can also set the time.
Chill Tub Pro control panel
Cooling unit of the chill tubs
All Chill Tubs (Lite, Original and Pro) have the same cooling unit. It cools with 0.9 KWH and should run all the time to run as efficiently as possible. It comes with a pump, compressor, control panel, ozonator, filter pump and various ball valves for outlets and inlets. The cooling unit and components weigh around 55 KG.
Hygiene and water purification
Hygiene and keeping the water clean is of course an essential part of any ice bath. The chill tubs come with two filter systems:
Ozonator
An ozonator usually works by taking oxygen (O₂) from the air or an oxygen tank and converting it into ozone (O₃) through an electrical discharge process. The ozone produced is then introduced into the water, where it develops its disinfecting and purifying effect. The main functions and benefits of an ozonator for water purification are
- Disinfection: Ozone is very effective in killing bacteria, viruses, protozoa and other microorganisms. It destroys the cell walls of microorganisms and thus prevents them from reproducing.
- Oxidation: Ozone can oxidize organic and inorganic impurities in water, converting them into more harmless substances. This also includes the removal of odors and tastes caused by organic compounds.
- Chemical removal: Ozone can break down various chemicals and pollutants in water, including pesticides, herbicides and other organic pollutants.
- No residual product: Ozone decomposes relatively quickly into oxygen (O₂), which means that it leaves no harmful residues in the water. This is an advantage over other disinfectants such as chlorine, which can leave residues.
- Efficiency: Ozone works very quickly and requires shorter contact times compared to other disinfection methods.
An ozonator is an effective and environmentally friendly water purification device that is used both for disinfection and to remove impurities.
Pump filter
The cartridge filter should be replaced approx. every 3 months. The filter is located near the cooling unit and can be replaced very easily and quickly.
Energy consumption of the chill tubs
Energy consumption always depends on several variables and is therefore not really easy to determine. On the one hand, it depends on the amount of water, on the set temperature (the warmer the lower), on the cooling time (does the cooling appliance run continuously or only in advance for ice bathing) and, extremely importantly, on the outside temperature.
The manufacturer states that the chill tubs consume around 3-5 KWH of electricity per day.
Commissioning
Installation and commissioning of the Chill Tubs ice pools is very simple. Immediately after delivery, the appliance must be set up flat and not put into operation for 24 hours. This allows the gas to settle. After this, the connection is very easy, as shown in the 4 steps below. The pool is filled using a normal garden hose and can be cooled down immediately afterwards.
The installation location should be selected so that a distance of 50 cm around the cooler is guaranteed. This allows the air to circulate optimally. The power socket should be 1-2 meters away from the Chill Tub for safety reasons. The cooling process should start within 6-12 hours (depending on the ambient temperature) before the first ice bath.
All Chill Tubs products
Chill Tubs also has other products in its range such as inflatable pools, chillers and chlorine tablets. With us you get the best prices and a top selection with advice. And new in the range is a mini cooling unit from Chill Tubs which can be combined with the inflatable ice barrels. This gives you an entry-level product that also helps to cool your pool in summer and keep it cool for a long time thanks to the good insulation of the pools and run as energy-efficiently as possible.
Conclusion
The Chill Tub cooling units are robust and visually attractive ice baths that come in different designs. The Chill Tub Lite is ideal for those who like it simple and straightforward. It is lighter than its siblings and has the same cooling power. The Chill Tub Original is an eye-catcher thanks to its unique metal look and, although a little heavier, is still compact. The Chill Tub Pro is the professional ice bath par excellence with plenty of space for tall people, great LED lighting and remote control of the cooling power via app. Incidentally, all 3 tubs are designed for both indoor and outdoor use. They all come with a cover to keep the dirt out.
